Getting There: Royal Gorge is located off Interstate 80 in Soda Springs (near Lake Tahoe), just three hours east of San Francisco, one and a half hours from Sacramento, and 45 minutes West of Reno, Nevada.

Most major airlines fly into Sacramento, San Francisco and Reno airports, including American Airlines, Delta, Southwest, and United. See this magazine’s Airlines page for contact information. Staying and Skiing There: There are a variety of lodging alternatives from lodge rooms, private wilderness cabins and bed and breakfast accommodations. Call 1-800-500-3871 or check the Web links below.

Wilderness lodge offers two-, three-, five-day packages including all meals (wine with lunch and dinner), daily trail passes, daily ski lessons and tours. Transportation to the wilderness lodge is via a weather-proof sleigh, upon which equipment and luggage are loaded. Warm clothes, camera, sunscreen, sunglasses, swimsuit and a light robe are a must (bathrooms are down the hall in the lodge).

Wilderness Lodge Rates: All -inclusive packages from $139 to $239 per person/per night (2001 rates, private cabin), $95 to $135 for children. Special rate packages are available. Rainbow Lodge rates vary from $99 to $165 (2001) with mid-week specials available.

Season: December to April. Track Fees (2001): Adult All-Day $25 weekend, $21.50 mid-week, Child 13-16 $12, Child 12 and under free. Call1-800-500-3871 for multi-day and season passes prices.

Summit Station, the day lodge, is the hub from which all Royal Gorge activities originate, including ticket purchases and entry to the terrain park and the wilderness lodge. Ski equipment rentals are also available at Summit Station.
